| Dear Conservation Colleagues:
We need your help! Environment Canada is considering
changes
to the Habitat Conservation Stamp program and Wildlife Habitat
Canada (WHC). A copy of the document can be found at
http://www.cws-scf.ec.gc.ca/legislations/tim-st_con/index_e.cfm.
A
copy of our response is available.
Since 1984, we have invested over $52 million in conservation
projects and activities. Of that total, $32 million has come from
the Habitat Conservation Stamp program. We believe the current
system is an effective and efficient means of delivering the Habitat
Conservation Stamp program. The consultation document fails to
make the case that it is not. If you agree with us, we propose the
following actions:
1. Call your MP to voice your support
for WHC. Encourage him/her
to contact Environment Minister John Baird. If you have contacts
in
the Federal Government, encourage them to contact Minister Baird
as well.
For a list of MPs and contact information please see: http://webinfo.parl.gc.ca/MembersOfParliament/MainMPsComplete
List.aspx?TimePeriod=Current&Language=E
2. Send a letter to Environment Minister
John Baird, with a copy to your local MP and WHC at Consultation.
Feel free to personalize your letter to reflect your own experience
with WHC.
For your reference, a
sample letter (aussi
disponible en français) is attached.
3. Inform your colleagues, members and networks of this
situation and encourage them to contact the Government as well.
Please see our website at www.whc.org
