SHARING CANADA'S WETLANDS ACHIEVEMENTS GLOBALLY

Wetlands Around the World: The Peat Portal (pdf)

Canada has had a long history conserving and protecting wetlands. The wetlands/peatlands are immense and diverse resources that are distributed widely in the country, from grasslands through to arctic regions. These habitat resources have many domestic and international values. The Peat Portal is an international website that is sponsored by the Global Environmental Centre (GEC). It is designed to promote the conservation and protection of the world's peatlands, and achieves this objective by allowing people from various countries to share and profile information on the status and issues concerning peatlands. At the GEC's request to have a central contact for Canada, WHC is acting as the lead in developing the format and content for the Canadian folder on the Peat Portal.

"The Canadian folder is particularly innovative in its breadth of wetland and peatland conservation and protection considerations."

Faizal Parish, Director
Global Environmental Centre

WHC's role is in keeping with its domestic and international interests in further developing and sharing expertise/information related to the care and management of wetlands/peatlands which are critical habitats for waterfowl and other species.
