| Did you know that approximately 50% of Canadian
farmers and ranchers have contributed to the conservation or restoration
of natural areas through activities such as planting trees? Or that
70% of Canadian farmers and ranchers see themselves as "part of the
solution" -- believing that their management and land use practices
provide broad societal benefits and help deal with the environmental
challenges facing Canadian society?
If you're interested in learning more about the
attitudes and behaviours of farmers and ranchers towards the environment,
then please join us as we launch of the results of the National
Survey on Ecological Goods and Services - the first and most comprehensive
survey of its kind ever undertaken in Canada.
Ecological goods and services (EG&S) are
the benefits that humans derive from healthy ecosystems. For example,
habitats such as wetlands and forests promote human health by purifying
our water, filtering our air, detoxifying our wastes and regulating
our climate.
David Brackett, WHC President, and Jane Armstrong,
Vice President of Environics Research Group, will discuss the results
and implications of this important survey and answer questions from
the audience.
