ABOUT THE ARTIST: PIERRE LEDUC
Pierre Leduc was born in Québec
in 1957. Painting only became part of his life gradually, starting
when he was a university student. One of his professors discovered
his talent and asked him to illustrate some of his works on Québec
flora. He now has a well-established career in Canada, the United
States and Europe. The fact that he was chosen two years in succession
in 1990 and 1991 by the Québec Wildlife Foundation and in
1995 by Wildlife Habitat Canada to create their stamps and nature
conservation prints, has greatly facilitated Pierre’s entry
onto the North American nature art scene.
ABOUT THE PAINTING: "BACK TO THE POND - REDHEADS"
"In the painting, I’ve
focussed mainly on habitat because the background is composed of
many elements, and each one is very important to the overall image.
It is comparable to a theatrical play for which we must select the
decor. Once the decor is assembled, then the actors can get into
character. Above all else, I wanted this scene to express a calm
feeling along with a resounding visual contrast. By accentuating
the green of the water, and by choosing a bird with a red head,
I imagined a particular contrast between the two complementary colours."
