| Boyle, Alberta – May 24, 2005 The coordinator of Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries' forest education
program, David Rauscher, has won the Forest Stewardship Recognition
Program award. The forest stewardship award is presented annually
to individuals, organizations and companies for outstanding stewardship
in Canada's forests.
"The
environmental education programs developed by Dave Rauscher go well
beyond what the forest industry has traditionally done," says Lynn
McIntyre, Director of Stewardship Programs for Wildlife Habitat
Canada. "Teachers and students have access to the latest information
and technology as they learn about forest management and about how
our activities in the forest can affect the biodiversity that they
contain."
"Young people in Alberta understand
that they have a personal responsibility to ensure that our forests,
and the wildlife that they contain, are cared for and sustained
for future generations," says McIntyre.
The
resource kits developed for Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries' forest
education program are available at www.alpac.ca.
More
than 135 individuals, organizations and companies have received
the Forest Stewardship Recognition Program award since the program
was established in 1998. This year, ten forest stewardship awards
will be presented. Winners receive a limited edition print of a
painting entitled New Morning by BC artist Don Li-Leger.
The
founding partners of the Forest Stewardship Recognition Program
are Wildlife Habitat Canada, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources,
the Canadian Forest Service and the Forest Products Association
of Canada.
