| Habitat Biodiversity in Canada's Forested Landscapes
November 2005
In Canada, the forest dominated landscapes are important habitats.
Surprisingly, these regions include most of the country's wetlands.
The forest habitat maps are the basis for a brief commentary on
the diversity and differences in Canada's forest habitats, and
are intended to explain that:
-
the conservation of forested landscapes should include a complementary
examination of species, genetics and habitats/ecosystems levels
of biodiversity
-
the magnitude of the habitat biodiversity value for an (forested)
area does not necessarily determine the area's importance
or significance for wildlife
- forest habitat assessments/planning/management
considerations need to be extended beyond just the forested
regions.

Canada's Marine Areas: Integrating the Boundaries of Politics
and Nature
May 2004
This map highlights the importance of Canada's nautical mile limits
and was chosen based on WHC's involvement as a mainstay partner
in the completion of the North
American Commission for Environmental Cooperation's Marine
Report (due to be released soon). Other marine related initiatives
linked to Canada's Marine Areas include the Department of Fisheries
and Oceans' new marine
strategy, the Canadian Council on Ecological Areas' Marine
Ecozones of Canada, as well as the Oceanic
and Coastal Seascapes chapter in WHC's report, The Status
of Wildlife Habitats in Canada - 2001.
