Snow Geese at Nest by Jean-Luc Grondin (1989)
About the Artist
French Canadian artist, Jean-Luc Grondin has two great passions. One is birds, the other is painting birds. Depending on his familiarity with the subject, he may make as many as 25 to 30 sketches before beginning to paint. Grondin always works in gouache, which he feels allows him to more perfectly capture the muted colours of the northern birds of the Laurentians.About the Painting
"Although it is true that snow geese nest mainly in colonies, I chose to focus my painting on a single couple. I used back-lighting to enhance the definition of the birds in the relatively dark setting; while the flowering willow herbs in the foreground discreetly complement the colour of the pair's beak and legs."- Jean-Luc Grondin
